The Lisu people practise nature worship of the spirits of all living things, and the word lisu(傈) means “chestnut(栗)”, they also have a same pronunciation in Chinese called “LI”. Lisu clothing is very colourful, the most common is black fabric as a base, and then colourful threads are embroidered on the clothing with flowers and plants that the Lisu people like. The natural calendar of the Lisu is very rich in ethnic and regional characteristics. They use the changes in natural phenomena such as the opening of mountain flowers, the cries of mountain birds, and the flying of snow as a means of determining the seasonal patterns of production. The year is divided into 10 festivals: the month of blossoming flowers (March), the month of birdsong (April), the month of burning the volcano (May), the month of hunger (June), the month of gathering (July/August), the month of harvesting (September/October), the month of cooking wine (November), the month of hunting (December), the month of celebrating the Chinese New Year (January), and the month of building houses (February).
